My Whole Foods can kick yours….

Pace (boyfrenn) and I went to health blogger Mecca today. Did you know that the Whole Foods in Austin was the first? My favorite part is the dessert bar. The tres leches is the best dessert I have ever had in my life. And there is a vat of condensed milk next to it so you can over-saturate your saturated cake.

Behold:

The tres leches is the bottom left…

We also went to Daily Juice, an old Austin favorite for smoothies, juices, and health concoctions. We always get The Chronic. Douchey name, delicious drink. It has frozen bananas, hemp milk, agave nectar, hemp seeds, hemp oil, and hemp protein. That may not sound delicious, but it is, even without the THC. πŸ˜‰

Me next to their superfood side menu

I’ve been diggin’ high wasted shorts with flowy tops and my key necklace.

This post is very Austin-y. Last night for dinner we went out, since Pace is in the middle of moving and we could not cook. We decided to try Odd Duck Farm to Trailer. Its a cute little trailer that only sells dishes made from local produce and meats. Trailer eateries have literally taken over Austin. We have trailers for snow cones, cake balls, southern food, vegan food, Indian food, Mexican food, kebabs, tacos, German food, cupcakes, mini pies, fro-yo, fried cones, chocolate dipped frozen bananas, and literally everything else you could think of – or not. Its so hip that pretty soon the fixies are gonna sell their downtown flats and open up a trailer park commune.

We got the…

Grilled watermelon with cherry tomato relish and goat ricotta: This was just alright. Nothing to write home about.

Grilled parmesan eggplant and summer squash: Pretty tasty, but I could make that at home easy.

Half of quail with potato and caper aioli: This was very tasty! The aioli is something I must learn to recreate.

Pork belly slider: This was delicious! The bread was moist and the relish atop the pork was a great compliment to the pork.

Nom nom!

This is Pace…

Overall, the food was pretty good, but I am not sure I would return unless they had something that sounded like it was meant for me. Ya know.

Im hoping to get a peanut butter muffin post up here soon! I am going to Tibet for 3 weeks in 5 days, and I wont be able to post while I am gone 😦 . I had planned on getting a bunch of posts scheduled for while I am away, but since I haven’t been able to cook, it doesn’t look like that will be possible. Would anyone like to do a guest post while I am gone?

I love the health/food blog world. πŸ™‚

  1. Haha! I love your whole foods bar! You are one lucky duck!! What did grilled watermelon taste like? I didn’t even know that you could grill watermelon!!!

I’d love to do a guest post for you!

  2. I had to google “fixie” and I am still not quite sure what it means. o.O

The “in a trailer” fad hasn’t reached out here yet, but I can see it taking off. We have tons of roach-coaches out here –sorry, “food trucks” — but no trailers. Yet.

Ooh, Pace is a cutie. πŸ˜‰

Enjoy Tibet! Take lots of pictures! πŸ˜€

    1. Fixie are fixed gear bikes, but you can call the hipsters who ride them that too. πŸ™‚ Tis not more than playful banter!

And I will take tons of pictures and not prepare one meal during the 3 week trip!

  3. You’ve already had a taker, but I’ll guest post of you anytime you want!

  5. You are the prettiest little thing! I LOVE that Whole Foods and have spent hours cruising all the aisles, sampling foods and always spending more $$ than I intended. Looks like you are having a quintessential summer in Austin. πŸ™‚

And yes, the food trailers are EVERYWHERE.

  6. So you’re probably one of the very few classy gals who can pull off high-waisted shorts. Congratulations — you are (obviously) amazing.

Yes, I concede, your Whole Foods kicks mine. Hands down. Besides the fact that my current city does not have a Whole Foods (indeed the Dark Ages are still upon this fair part of Canada), I’m always all for the original. Woot woot Austin baby!

  7. I’m a little late in reading this post but WOW- that is the coolest WF ever… a dessert bar?! Nice!

Is it too late for me to write a guest post? πŸ™‚

You know I am so down to guest for you whenevah. Plus, I’ll be home in the Berk soon and obviously won’t be letting my food processor out of my sight, so I’ll have lots to share πŸ™‚

  9. sometimes i just stand in front of the dessert aisle & drool, yummmm.. then i’ll wander over to the bakery section & get free samples to fulfill my cravings!
